This all-new model is fresh from a full redesign and boasts a more refined driving experience, a next-generation hybrid powertrain, new standard technologies and much more. Best of all, the 2020 Toyota Highlander gasoline-powered model is set for a December 2019 release date while the hybrid model will start to arrive in February 2020.

The 2020 Highlander Hybrid comes standard with a 2.5-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that works in conjunction with the two electric motors mounted under the third-row seating. Testing results are not published yet, but Toyota claims the miles per gallon could be as high as 34 while still putting out 240 horsepower.
The 2020 Highlander offers a choice between two advanced powertrains, a gas V6 or a new version of the Toyota Hybrid System. The 295-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 is the epitome of smoothness.
Almost surprisingly, the Highlander is the only vehicle in the class to offer a hybrid version, at least as of right now. (The 2020 Ford Explorer, which is slated to go on sale this summer, will also offer a hybrid model.)Mostly what the hybrid hardware brings is the expected benefit of better fuel economy, which in this case comes with few sacrifices save for a bit of added cost.
